Welcome to my page!

World Perspectives (Freshmen) This course is designed to teach students geography and history through the study of Iowa and the impact Iowa has and will continue to have on the rest of the world. For example. students will learn about Iowa in regard to climate, history, ecosystems, world trade, and culture. Students will learn about the primary business pursuits, such as agriculture, that drive the economy in Iowa. This study will evolve into the study of similar regions of the world and the similarities and differences that can be determined. Students will learn how how we can work together with other people of the world by sharing in areas such as knowledge (technology), trade, the study of weather patterns, and jobs both present and future that students may want to consider as they study careers. Evaluation of student progress will include a combination of tests, group and/or individual projects, quizzes, and daily work.

World Cultures (Sophomore) This course studies human history from the earliest civilization to the present, with an inclusion of important geographical studies. Students will become familiar with the varied experiences of people throughout history as well as the common pattern of civilization. They will learn about political, social and economic developments that have created the world, as we know it. As students study the past, they begin to understand the challenges of the present and the major issues of the future. Emphasis is placed on events and ideas rather than specific dates. Instruction and evaluation will take the form of reading, discussion, projects, and evaluation.

Current Events (Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors) This course studies current global issues/events and current American social problems. A variety of learning activities will be used including resource speakers, field trips, group interaction,classroom discussions, and various media sources. Areas of study include: current global events/issues, historical backgrounds, current American social problems, and evaluating potential solutions to these problems.  

Sociology (Seniors) This course is designed to introduce students to human behavior and human relationships. Sociology will help students better understand the society and the environment in which they live, allowing them to establish more effective relationships with others. Istruction involves lectures, group discussions, readings, resource activities, and a community service program.
